Fall House Tour 2015

Our house is far from “done” (and I’m realizing that it will probably never be truly done – with how I always have some project I want to tackle!)  BUT it’s come such a long way since we started working on it about 10 months ago.  If you’re new here, you need to check out the prior posts on our “1902 Victorian” page.  Long story short: we bought this house at an auction, and spent the next 4 months fixing it up so we could live in it.  We moved in April, had our second baby in May, and have continued to make over rooms as we’re living in this house.

So far, we’ve finished our kitchen, nursery, master bedroom & office.  It’s been a crazy ride so far, but we’re planning on being in this house for the long haul, so we’re really making sure that we LOVE what we do to this house!  I’ve been documenting everything on Instagram (using #FixingUp1902), come follow along!

So keep in mind that our fall decorations are simple, rooms are unfinished, and there’s still 823,746 things on the “to-do” list.  But I refuse to not decorate even when we our house isn’t finished!  It’s all about loving the space you’re in, not living in a perfect house.

Let’s start outside!

1902 mums

My husband & my dad worked so hard to get these railings installed.  It wasn’t on our priority list at all, and then our homeowners inspection told us they needed to be up ASAP.  We quickly bumped them to the top of the priority list!

See those baby hydrangeas?  I’m SO hoping they flourish here!  I just love big fluffy hydrangeas, but I’m such a novice gardener so I’ve been gleaning whatever information I can from my mom (and Pinterest!)

We originally had big overgrown and ugly bushes out front and on the side of our porch.  We ripped them out so we could start fresh with landscaping.  It looked so sad and bare this summer, but hopefully it’ll look a lot better next summer!

For our front – I have big dreams for this view someday!  I can’t wait to get a new door, but we’ll probably paint this one first.  We plan on staining the deck wood next spring, and having the stairs match.  The chippy ceiling is charming, but will eventually be cleaned up as well.

(all of the flowers, corn stalks & planters came from our local nursery)

I have a naturally black thumb, so I’m kind of excited that I’ve been keeping plants alive this fall!  Hooray!!  I also planted a lot of bulbs – praying they actually come up in the spring!

Fall 2015 112

Instead of a wreath, I hung a bunch of 3 Indian corn cobs from our storm door.  EASY!

I talked about these pillow covers on my Facebook page – I bought them super cheap ($5 a piece) on Amazon & they’re surprisingly great quality!  They take a long time to ship, and aren’t eligible for Prime (boo!) but shipping is free (hooray!).  After I got these, I bought four more in different colors!

Stepping inside – I just kept my family room décor to some new pillows (I sewed them from some fabric I bought at JoAnns) and a new throw blanket:

The throw blanket was also from Amazon & I’m kind of in love with it.  It’s super soft, and perfect for snuggles.

Did you see my office makeover yet?  I didn’t do too much in here, but I added some festive gold bottles (from my sister’s wedding centerpieces).

Fall Office

In the kitchen, I had fun sewing some new pillow covers, and filling an antique “toolbox” with fresh picked apples & indian corn.

fall table

Gosh I love this pew!  And that farmhouse table that my husband built – he’s a keeper!

I’ve been sharing lots of peeks into our daily life on Instagram – and our kitchen is just the perfect place for our fall cooking.  I cannot be more in love with this room – especially after all of the hard work we put into it!

We’ve got a long way to go on our house, but we’re LOVING our finished rooms in here so far!  Fall is just so charming in our small town – we can hear the marching band practicing in the distance during our evening walks, and the trees changing colors is just stunning outside of our big old windows.
