How to easily paint a wood sign

When we were putting the finishing touches on our kitchen makeover, I realized we had a big “hole” to the right of our open shelving.  I also realized we couldn’t put anything on the wall there that would stick out too far, because it’s where the bathroom door opened.

I searched around our local antique and thrift stores for a one of a kind sign for that space, but I didn’t find anything!  They either were the wrong size, weren’t cute, or were way too expensive.

I took matters into my own hands and decided to make one myself. I used this technique – it’s an old post, but the technique is still the same.  And it’s SO simple.  All you’ll need is a printer, paper, a ballpoint pen, wood & paint.

I used a plywood sheet from my local hardware store. I had them cut it down to the exact size I wanted, stained it (this is the color/brand I used – aff. link), and then painted it once the stain dried. I was actually pretty pregnant with Nora when I did this – it was relaxing to sit out on the porch and paint last spring!

Then we hung it next to our open shelving, and it looked like it was made for that spot!  Well…maybe because it was…
